SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE 1/18/00 - Sprint, our 'upstream' Internet
service provider, will be performing maintenance on the core router, to
which we are connected, on Tuesday morning January 18th.
The scheduled start time is : 4:00 a.m. on 1/18/00
The maintenance window is : 4:00 to 7:00 a.m. on 01/18/00
We will experience an outage during this maintenance.
BUSY OR FAST? - Keep in mind that there are two types of busy signals you might hear when dialing. The
first is the 'slow' busy signal
that you normally hear when the number you dial is in use. We are
constantly adding additional lines so this doesn't happen. If you do
experience the slow busy signal, we appreciate knowing what number
and at what time you dialed.
The second type of busy signal is the 'fast-busy.' This is the
type of sound you might hear on Mother's Day or on Christmas when
calling a relative in another state. It indicates that the phone
company switch is overloaded and is not accepting additional
connections. This is a phone company problem and is not something that
NorthNet has any control over. If this happens frequently, please
notify your phone company.
By the way, even though it is not a pretty sound, you should set up your computer so that you are able to
hear your modem dial and connect.
This will allow you to determine if there is a problem with your call.
If you can't hear the modem or want to adjust the volume, see the
following site:

CHECK YOUR "CAPS LOCK" KEY - The most frequently asked question
that our Technical Support people get is "Why doesn't my password work?"
Nine times out of 10 the problem is caused by the 'Caps Lock'
key on the keyboard being engaged. Remember that all NorthNet usernames
and passwords are case sensitive; letters in UPPER case are treated
differently than the same letters in lower case. Please check your
keyboard before calling for help.
CERTIFICATE AUTHORITY - If you are using a version of Netscape
earlier than version 4.06 you may have seen a message stating that your
browser's Certificate Authority expired on Dec. 31, 1999.
You are not required to update your copy of Netscape. You merely
have to click on Continue to get past that message.
You can get information about this at:
http://www.netscape.com/cms/certinfo.html?cp=hom01p3
That page says:
Q: If I continue using 4.05 will my online transactions continue to be
secure?
A: Yes, you will continue to have secure connections and your credit
card number and other personal information will remain as safe and
secure as they were before. You may simply click Continue to make a
secure connection.
