Setting up NorthNet on Windows 95

We are providing you with Netscape Navigator version 2.0 on diskette. Netscape is a world wide web browser, mail program and news reader all in one package. It is free for non-Commercial use. If you already have this program in another version you do not need to install this software. If you have an older version of Netscape and wish to install version 2.0, we suggest that you uninstall the older version first. Also please note that this version of netscape is the 32 bit version for windows 95. It will not work with windos 3.1x. Also included is a telnet program called Simp Term and mIRC, an internet Relay Chat Client. Please be sure that you have at least 6MB of disk space free for the installation. ToCheck Your free space, click on My Computer and highlight the C: drive. The Free Space will be displayed at the bottom of the window in the frame.

To install Programs:
To copy the provided software to your hard disc, click on Start, Run. Run the program: A:INSTALLA.BAT. (Note: use this command ifthe disc is in drive A:. Use B:INSTALLB.BAT if the disc is in drive B: ) When the install program for the first finishes, close the DOS window and do the same thing for discs two and three.

In order to distribute Netscape, we have chopped it into three parts. The install program copies the three pieces of the Netscape program and reassembles them. For this reason it is important to run the install program in the correct order: first disc number one, then disc number two and finally disc number three. Please be sure that you have at least 6,000,000 bytes free on your hard drive before you try to install the program. The progam will copy the file n32e20.exe to your c:\TEMP directory.
To create a NorthNet folder:
With your cursor anywhere on the desktop, press the right mouse button. From the menu this brings up choose New, Folder with the left mouse button. With the name of the folder highlighted in blue, enter the new name for the folder: NorthNet and press <ENTER>
To add programs to the NorthNet folder:
Double click on the NorthNet folder to open it. It will be empty. Drag it to the far right hand side of the desktop.

Click on Start, Run. Enter: c:\temp\n32e20.exe and press <ENTER>

Follow the directions on the screen to install Netscape.

Do not choose "Connect to Netscape site to finish installation" since you haven't set up your dialup networking yet.

Once Netscape has installed itself in it's own folder, you may drag the Netscape icon over to the NorthNet folder and drop it there. That will create a "Shortcut to Netscape" in the NorthNet folder. You may then close the Netscape Navigator folder.

To add Simp Term and mIRC to the NorthNet folder double click on My Computer on the desktop. Highlight the C: drive with a single click, then click on File, Explore. This will open a list of folders. Scroll down the list untill you come to the mirc folder. Open it by clicking on it. In the 'Contents of mirc' window find the file Mirc32. Drag this file to the open NorthNet folder and drop it there. This will create a shortcut to Mirc32.

Next scroll down the list of 'All folders' in the Exploring window until you come to the spt folder. Open it By Clicking on it. In the 'Contents of spt' window find the file Sptnet32(the yellow icon) and drag it to the open NorthNet folder and drop it there. This will create a shortcut to Sptnet32.

The next Step is to set up Windows 95 for a dial-up PPP connection.

Note: be sure to configure Netscape the first time you use it. Details are on a separate sheet
