Configuring Netscape - Windows 95 for Northnet
Important: Before you can send or receive mail, you must configure Netscape Navigator for your own email account. At the Netscape main menu, click on Options, then Mail and News Preferences.
Click on the Servers tab.
Enter aldus.northnet.org in both the Outgoing Mail (STMP) Server field and in the Incoming Mail (POP) Server field. Enter your own NorthNet username in the POP User Name field. In our illustration, John Smith's user name is "jsmith." You will find your username on the copy of your NorthNet application which was returned to you (with a hard copy of this documentation). Note that this is your username only. Do not enter @northnet.org here.
In the News section, enter news.northnet.org in the News (NNTP) Server field. Note that your mail and news directories may be different than those in the example above. Do not change whatever directory is already there. If you have already changed this directory, and you can't restore the original, please call the NorthNet technical assistance hotline between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m.
Next, click on the Identity tab. Enter your full name in the Your Name: field and your email address in the Your Email: field. Your email address is your Username plus "@northnet.org" as in the example below. NOTE: Enter everything in lower case, with no spaces. You do not need to fill in any of the other spaces.
When you have completed all of the steps listed above, click on OK.
Finally, click on Options, then on General Preferences, and finally on the Apps tab.
Add: c:\spt\sptnet32.exe to the Telnet Applications: field.
When you are done, click on OK. At the Netscape main menu, again click on Options, then click on Save Options.
Netscape is now configured for your account at NorthNet.
Please note that while it is possible to connect to NorthNet by clicking on the Netscape icon, we recommend that you use the Dialup Networking icon to connect, until you are certain that everything is working correctly. To access the Dialup Networking icon, click on Start, Programs, Accessories, Dialup Networking.
