Artists Instructions for rules of engagement: &
JUDGING CRITERIA

Power Tools, Armatures, Molds, Jigs, Fixtures, Props, & Colorants Are Not Permitted.

Only the 3 Members registered to carve on the Team may do any work on the sculpture.
No other people!

Ice may be substituted at Organizers Discretions as an alternative medium due to weather.
Drawings & Models will be judged in extreme emergencies, for non-alternate dates.
Paint is not allowed for layout of design on the block, only magic markers or chalk lines.

Plagiarism of Sculptures is not allowed.

Only the snow from the original packed block of snow, 6’ x 6’ x 10’ may be used in the sculpture.

The sculpture area is not to exceed a 6’ radius from center of block. No height limitation.

Violations of any rules will receive point reductions that will be applied at Judging.

Judging Criteria:

Five judges mark each sculpture in eight categories with 1 the lowest and 10 the highest.

Duplicate numbers may be given in different categories per sculpture.
8 categories x 10 point rating x 5 judges max scores = 400 maximum points.

Creativity:
The Originality of expression, new, different, unique in design, or a variation of the familiar with clever use of the elements in the design.

Composition:   
The arrangement of artwork should be pleasing or interesting to look at as a whole as well as in selected parts. Visual balance, the big picture and the zoom-in views should be
pleasing from all angles.

Emotion:
The excitement and passion of the artwork, how much does the sculpture influence your feelings, makes you think, laugh, cry, shiver in fear.

Finish:
The completed artwork of the final product must be as close as possible to the intended application entry, contingent upon weather conditions.  All sides and selected parts, from all angles, all textures and all planes should be complete.  Straight lines should be straight and curved lines should be smooth and graceful.

Meaning:    
The significant value of the art to the audience, the sculpture tells a story, has a message, makes you think. The sculpture title should influence the message.

Proportion:
The ratio of shapes and sizes are pleasing to the eye, and there should be a variety. If they are meant to be equal, they must be equal. Realistic elements should be accurate.

Precision:
The accuracy of lines, objects, planes, and surfaces of the art Should look like it is suppose to. Repeated elements are alike in size and style. Daring of construction components.

Presentation:  
The area nearby should be cleaned free of snow and debris. The site should be set apart from the surrounding area and sculptures. Visual force of the sculpture should be placed for maximum viewing and the sculpture is well presented. The whole artwork and surrounding area is articulate and well presented.

Artists’ & People’s Choice Awards to be determined by common ballot at the competition.
