History of the Clifton-Fine Central School District

On June 7th, the Commissioner of Education approved the boundary for the Clifton-Fine district, and on June 29, 1946, the people voted to centralize.  The class of 1947 was the first to graduate under the name "Clifton-Fine Central School".
Land was purchased in August 1947 and bonds were authorized on June 23, 1949.  The new building was dedicated on March 20, 1952, and the students and staff moved into the building at that time.  The class of 1952 was the first to graduate in the new building.

The districts that centralized were:

District #1  Fine Settlement

#2  Oswegatchie (early Brown Falls Schools were also #2)

            #3  Colton Hill

            #4  Ed House or Clintsman

            #5  Scott's Bridge

            #6  Kirk or Irish Hill

            #7  Guiles

            #8  Vrooman Ridge

            #9  Star Lake

          #10  Brown Falls Pulp Mill

          #11  Wanakena

          #12  Briggs' Switch

and Aldrich was called a sub-school of Oswegatchie District #2.

All of this information, plus lists of students and teachers from 1947 to 1951 are in the cornerstone of the present building.  This information was submitted by Jean Grimm.
